June 17 - Travel writer in WhyGo destination guides division for BootsnAll Travel Network . Duties: Research travel information and write posts/articles on specific aspects of travel to New York or Mexico. The length and complexity of the articles varies, so there is no preset number of pieces to be written each week. Our style is a mixture of inspiration and practical details rather than narratives. Description: BootsnAll was founded in 1998 and is well known in the independent/backpacker travel community. It's profitable, unlike many other travel sites, so we'll be able to help teach interns about writing for the internet at a company with a successful business model. You'll learn what works and why, as well as what doesn't work and why. There is plenty of room for creativity once you have the basics down, so we would love to have interns who'll be able to come up with their own ideas and then execute them. The writers will likely be able to write about things they are already familiar with, but will also need to write about things that are new to them. Being able to write confidently, honestly, and intelligently about something you've not yet experienced is an important skill and interns will have many opportunities to work on this. Interns could also have an opportunity to learn business aspects of writing for the internet. Most of the general public is unaware of how profitable websites make money, so this could be a great opportunity for someone who is interested in learning more about the online travel industry and how it works. This also an ideal opportunity to have your work published on the web and build your portfolio with more published clips, all while learning about basic html coding. Who we are looking for: -Must have strong writing skills -Loves travel -Some knowledge of either Mexico or New York -Self-starter -At least Junior or Senior standing in school While we are looking for someone with strong writing skills, the ideal candidate will not necessarily have a long resume or any professional writing experience. Mostly, we are searching for someone who is passionate about travel (and specifically the destinations of New York or Mexico), who can take direction, works well on their own and who is eager to learn more about travel writing and writing for the web. While you definitely do not need to be a journalism major to apply, we are looking for someone who is interested in writing, internet media, travel, social media and the web. How to Apply To apply, please submit the following (preferably by email): -3 writing samples. Published clips are preferable if you have them, but definitely not necessary to apply. Show us something that demonstrates your own editorial voice, as we like our travel guides to reflect your own voice and personality. -Resume. Keep in mind, however, we are more interested in your eagerness to learn and develop rather than your professional experience. -Cover Letter. Let us know about your experience with Mexico and/or New York and why you think you'd be able to do a good job writing interesting posts and guides to these places. Why do you love travel and what qualities do you think you could bring to the BootsnAll team? Please email all application materials to Roger Wade at wade@bootsnall.com

March 12 - Art Intern at Tikkun Magazine for Tikkun Magazine. Art interns at Tikkun engage deeply with the question of how to illustrate articles about politics, social change, and spirituality. They work on our national magazine and on our website, generating illustration ideas and conducting image research. They will play a central role in finding imagery for use on our new multimedia blog site, which is currently under construction. The site will feature regular photo essays and art galleries. In the art world these days, it is quite difficult to find images that are not only artistically strong but also have social content. We need images that critique the pretensions and cruelties of our materialistic and self-centered culture. We also need artwork about peace, spirituality, hope, and social transformation that is NOT sappy, corny, or part of a New Age aesthetic. Interns with strong art skills may also be encouraged to try their hand at creating original illustrations to be considered for publication in the magazine. QUALIFICATIONS: We prefer candidates with a background in illustration or graphic design but are willing to consider others with the appropriate expertise. Here is what we're looking for: * An understanding of the magazine's particular worldview. To illustrate the magazine effectively, you must first understand its raison d'etre. * Creativity and persistence. You must have the creativity to come with illustration concepts and the persistence to find images that we can obtain permission to use. * Self-motivation and organizational skills. You must be capable of putting out a call for art submissions and then compiling an in-house database of drawings and paintings connected to the main themes of the magazine. * Familiarity with preparing images for the Web and using Adobe Photoshop. * People skills help! Could you work with a college art professor to engage her students in grappling with the challenge of illustrating Tikkun? * Internship is ideally set in Berkley, CA - but work from elsewhere could be discussed To apply, send a cover letter explaining why you would like to take part in this internship program to internships.tikkun@gmail.com. Also send a resume and the names and phone numbers of at least two references whom we may contact. If we are interested in your application, we will contact you and ask you to complete an additional assignment. No phone calls please.
