February 05 - Culture Editor for The Indypendent.

Responsibilities: We are looking for someone to develop The Indypendent's culture section by recruiting new writers, tracking cultural events and trends, and assigning and editing stories. This is a wide-ranging job with a tremendous opportunity for creativity.

The ideal candidate should be adept at generating reviews � books, music, theater, movie, performance, visual arts � as well as finding writers who can write on topics including architecture, food, sexuality, religion, language, health and science.

A primary job requirement is working closely with the advertising team to identify upcoming events well in advance that would be of interest to The Indypendent's readership.

Qualifications: At least three years of writing and editing experience on cultural topics. Journalism experience a must; newspaper production experience a plus. Must have extensive knowledge of New York's art and culture communities, particularly alternative/underground scenes. Ability to juggle multiple responsibilities and projects at once, meet deadlines and turn around editing and writing assignments quickly.

September 11 - Technology Manager/Web Producer for Gotham Gazette for GothamGazette.com.

Organization: Citizens Union Foundation (CUF)

Responsibilities: CUF seeks a full-time employee who can creatively and competently manage the technical needs and programming aspects of the dynamic www.gothamgazette.com, an online publication about New York City that has pioneered the use of the Web in covering local issues and is published by the good government group, Citizens Union Foundation.

The Technology Manager/Web Producer works directly with the Editor and other staff journalists in the construction, programming, posting and maintenance of Gotham Gazette, a database driven journalism site featuring timely original articles, links, interactive features and graphics on city issues and politics.

The Technology Manager/Web Producer also is responsible for developing new features and sections as the site evolves, including the new Councilpedia project, a wiki with a page on every one of New York City's 51 City Council members including council members' voting records and campaign contributors. He or she wil also be responsible for the ad infrastructure of the site.

The Organization: Citizens Union Foundation (CUF) is the non-profit research, education and advocacy organization affiliated with Citizens Union, a non-partisan force for good government for more than 100 years. CUF conducts research and analyzes the impact of proposed public policy and legislation at the city and state level. In its effort to inform the citizens of New York, it publishes the online news site, www.gothamgazette.com, which has received national awards, including the Online News Association's Award for General Excellence, as well as local accolades.

Reports to: Editor in Chief, Gotham Gazette

Qualifications/Skills:
The successful candidate will possess most of the following qualifications:
� Bachelor's degree or equivalent training or experience
� Proficiency with PHP, MySQL, Apache, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, HTML, CSS Familiarity with cron, Subversion, web analytics and basic GNU/Linux command line tools.
� Familiarity with Wordpress, Web analytics, Mediawiki and Semantic Mediawiki plugin.
� Knowledge of Ajax, jQuery, Flash, Photoshop or other image editing software .
� Understanding of RSS and XML.
� Experience managing a database-driven Web site and working with other programmers' code.
� An understanding of Web development best practices such as Web accessibility standards.
� Prior experience in similar position is helpful with 4-5 years technical experience in programming and producing on-line material.
� Must be industrious, efficient, deadline-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
� Ability to work in a news driven atmosphere
� Strong interpersonal skills.
� Demonstrated interest in the nonprofit sector and the civic life of New York a plus.

Country Living, the top selling shelter magazine, is looking for a college junior or senior to intern in our features/copy department, starting ASAP and running through the fall semester. The LA Office is seeking a news & entertainment savvy Assistant Video Editor. This role will provide support to the Senior Producer, who is based in New York, and to the growing team in LA. The Assistant Video Editor will research news clips and find relevant web content on an on-going basis and perform video editing for web clips using Final Cut Pro.

Successful candidates will have video editing experience and possess at least 1 -2 years experience working for a news organization.
