Urban Omnibus is currently seeking summer interns to be its eyes on the street, filing story

RESILIENCE is an independent documentary film, in production, about international adoption from South Korea -- the first to tell the personal stories of Korea's birth mothers. The film will be distributed worldwide and broadcast on television in the U.S. and South Korea.
Description of Duties
We are looking for a highly motivated intern/researcher fluent in Korean who will assist the film's New York-based Associate Producer with finding archival Korean news, videos, films, and photos to be used in the documentary.
Responsibilities include locating appropriate research sources and organizations in the U.S. and Korea; searching web databases, contacting and corresponding with archive libraries as well as Korean broadcasting stations, newspapers, and media organizations to obtain materials. Media needed are Korean news and video footage, press clippings, films and photos of South Korea related to issues dealing with Korean overseas adoption and single mothers between the 1950's to present. Translation and transcribing of film transcripts may also be needed.
This is an unpaid position. If significant funding is secured, deferred payment may be available. Academic credit may be possible for college students. Intern/researcher will work from home and make his/her own schedule. We are asking for a minimum of 15hrs/week. Computer and internet access is a must. We will provide an international calling card for phone calls.
Accountability
The Associate Producer will direct the research criteria and meet with the intern/researcher at least once a week. The intern/researcher will be expected to provide weekly reports and participate in online conference calls with the Korea-based director and other production crew.
Requirements
*Complete fluency in Korean and conversational English is required. College junior/senior or recent undergraduates welcome. Only serious and committed candidates need apply. Film production experience is not required but research background and interest in documentary filmmaking is preferred.

Al Jazeera Arabic is seeking a full-time intern to start as soon as possible. The intern will help to produce live reports, news packages and taped features from the United Nations bureau. Responsibilities will include research, pitching stories, attending press conferences and conducting interviews. Other responsibilities will include technical tasks such as tape feeding and various interview setups in addition to limited administrative work. Arabic language ability is preferred, but not required. An interest in international news and the Middle East is a must.

We are looking for graduate journalism students to join us as evaluators for an online reporter certification course.
To maintain the highest journalistic standards, we offer an online "PEARL Reporter Certification Course" free-of-cost to students who want to join the project as reporters. The course consists of reading materials and three writing assignments, which add up to about 600 words.
As an evaluator, you will be asked to review these assignments, provide feedback and ask for revisions if necessary, and let us know if the student is ready to be certified as a PEARL Reporter.

The producers of the PBS documentary series e2: the economies of being environmentally conscious are seeking interns and volunteers to join us for the spring 2008 semester.
As we begin production on the third season of our series, we are looking for enthusiastic students who want to learn about documentary production from the ground up. Interns will be involved in the minutiae of production from day one, working closely with the series producers on a wide swath of tasks. General responsibilities include series development, story research, logging tapes, sourcing equipment, local errands and administrative assistance. There will be some opportunities to assist on location for shoots in the New York region. Edit facilities will be located on premises, and interns will have the opportunity to interact with editors and watch the editorial process progress in real time.
e2 is an ongoing series about solutions to contemporary environmental challenges. The first season — e2 design — was narrated by Brad Pitt, shot in HD and broadcast on PBS during the summer of 2006. It covered advances in sustainable architecture around the world, from urbanization in China to Chicago's city government. The second season, which premiered on PBS in October, consisted of two parts: e2 energy, and a sequel to e2 design. The energy portion studies the latest in sustainable energy programs, from wind farms in Minnesota to solar energy in Bangladesh. And design picks up where the first season left off, highlighting the cutting edge in ecological building practices and urban planning.
Applicants should be current college students or recent graduates based in New York City. Our offices are located in the Greenwich Village neighborhood. This internship is unpaid, but college credit is available if your institution offers it. You should be available one to two days per week, but we are flexible with scheduling.
Previous film or television production experience is preferred but not required. Strong writing skills are highly preferred, also. If you have a strong work ethic and an inquisitive demeanor, you will adapt quickly to a demanding work environment such as ours. ESSENCE Magazine, the premiere lifestyle publication for African American women, is looking for an intern to assist the Beauty Department and its editors. Candidates must be organized, motivated, hardworking but most of all have a serious interest in the beauty and the magazine industry. We are looking for candidates with a passion for writing and can't wait to exercise their creativity in this area. Duties will include (but are not limited to) maintaining and organizing the beauty closet, requesting and writing about products for editorial review, researching credits, receiving and returning samples, understanding and learning the market, and a host of administrative tasks. There will also be the opportunity to go on photo shoots and appointments with representatives in the industry. Interns will work closely with the Beauty team, including famed Beauty Director and Cover Editor, Mikki Taylor.
Our internship program is open to junior and senior undergraduate or graduate students who have an interest in journalism/communications and who desire a better understanding of magazine publishing.
This is an unpaid position. All candidates must be able to receive school credit and provide a letter of agreement written on school letterhead. A minimum of 2 days per week is required.

We're looking for someone with some CSS, PHP or MySQL skills who is interested in working with our Technical Director to sift the site with a fine toothed comb and streamline our code base.
Qualifications
* Competent in either CSS or PHP and MySQL
* Good attention to detail
* Interest in New York City politics, policy and civic life.
Technical interns will be spending their internship doing some or all of the following:
* Conducting a close audit of the current site
* Identifying ways to streamline our CSS or clean up the codebase
* Update events calendar listings.
During the academic year, a technical intern generally works 10 to 15 hours per week during normal business hours. We would expect you to stay a minimum of three month (or a semester) and can work with your academic institution regarding receiving credit. We do not pay interns.
