NYU Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute

The Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute of New York University invites applications for The Reporting Award of 2013 for a significant work of journalism in any medium on an under-reported topic in the public interest.

In filling out the application below, please be succinct but specific and answer all questions completely. The proposal deadline is February 19, 2013, with a decision expected on or about April 1, 2013. The completed project must be delivered no later than November 1, 2013. NYU Journalism may self-publish the work on its website, either in tandem with an established media outlet or on its own.

Ineligible to apply are NYU affiliates, NYU graduates with degrees dated 2010 and thereafter, and journalists holding staff positions at established media outlets.

The total award will be provided in the following way:

$2,500 on announcement of the winning proposal; an additional $10,000 on completion of the project by its November 1, 2013 deadline and notification of acceptance by the Awards committee.
$6,000 in NYU graduate journalism student research and fact-checking assistance (paid at $15/hr).
NYU ID and full online and onsite NYU Bobst Library research and reference privileges.
Workspace at the NYU Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute (It is a wi-fi, fully equipped Multimedia environment, however no personal computer or Audio or video equipment can be issued.)

On completion of the work, the author will be asked to present the work to the NYU journalism community in a mutually agreeable format to be decided and scheduled later.
