Jan Barry is a staff writer for The Record of Bergen County, NJ, where he covers community news and environmental issues in the New Jersey Highlands.

Author of A Citizen’s Guide to Grassroots Campaigns (Rutgers University Press), he is a member of an investigative project team that produced “Toxic Legacy,” a special report on industrial waste dumped near water supply streams, which was awarded the 2006 Grantham Prize for Excellence in Reporting on the Environment, the 2005 IRA Medal from Investigative Reporters and Editors, 2005 Sigma Delta Chi Award for Investigative Reporting from the Society of Professional Journalists, and other honors. A graduate of Ramapo College of New Jersey, he was the North Jersey Media Group Journalist in Residence at Rutgers University in spring 2005.
