Jill Dearman is a freelance writer and editor whose articles have been published in New York Daily News, Time Out New York, Publishers Weekly, Punk, Redbook, Nextbook, and numerous other publications. Her nonfiction has been published in New York Stories, Lilith, Harrington Lesbian Literary Quarterly, Mr. Beller’s Neighborhood, Constellation, Thereby Hangs A Tale and other publications. Her fiction has been anthologized by Cleis Press and published in The North Atlantic Review, The Portland Review and her story “Queen of the Merge” was awarded first prize in fiction by the Vera List Center for Art and Politics. Dearman’s essay “The Rehearsal Man” (published in Lilith, spring, 2007) for inclusion in “Jewish Mosaics”: www.jewishmosaic.org to represent the Jewish and GLBTQ experience. Dearman is a professional writing coach, and curator of the Writers Room Reading Series at Cornelia Street Cafe; she also served as a panelist for the 2007 New York Foundation for The Arts Nonfiction Grants Committee. Dearman contributes regularly to The Writer Magazine. She received an undergraduate degree in film and writing from SUNY Purchase and holds an MFA in Creative Writing, nonfiction concentration, from the New School. She teaches The Art of Editing: From Copy Editing to Top Editing and two summer writing courses of her own creation, Critical Writing – the Arts in New York City and The Feature Article – Journalism of New York City, A Writing Adventure.
