Faculty Profile

Derek John

Derek L. John is a staff producer for Studio 360, public radio's premier national arts and culture program produced at WNYC. After forays in film and television, most notably for PBS' Bill Moyers (where, among other things, he selected Bill's neckties), Derek picked up the radio signal full-time. He has freelanced for several NPR outlets on subjects ranging from early hip-hop to the future of books. His reporting has taken him from the bowels of Grand Central Station to a hot rod shop in the Mojave Desert, and earned numerous awards including a Gracie and a Peabody. His writing has appeared in New York, The New York Sun, and the Village Voice among other publications. He holds a Masters in Cultural Reporting & Criticism from NYU, where he is now an adjunct professor.
