Leigh Gallagher is an Assistant Managing Editor at Fortune magazine, where she edits feature stories on a variety of subjects and has responsibility for Fortune editorial franchises including the “Best Companies to Work For,” the “40 Under 40” ranking of the most powerful young people in business, and Fortune’s lifestyle coverage. Leigh is also a seasoned business news commentator, appearing regularly on television outlets including CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, NBC, CBS and Fox News; she is a contracted biweekly guest on public radio’s Marketplace. She is a frequent speaker at Fortune and other business and economics conferences and serves as co-chair of the Fortune Most Powerful Women/State Department Global Women’s Mentoring Partnership. Leigh is currently at work on a book about the future of the suburbs to be published by Portfolio in early 2013.
Before joining Fortune in 2007, Leigh was a senior editor at SmartMoney, where she edited the magazine’s consumer-oriented coverage. Prior to SmartMoney, she worked for six years as a writer and reporter for Forbes. Leigh is a graduate of Cornell University and lives in New York.
