Jake Novak is a producer at CNN. He began his professional journalism career in the rough-and-tumble world of local TV news, producing an hour-long nightly newscast in the tiny New England town of Bangor, Maine. He made brief stops at local stations in Decatur, Illinois and Cleveland, Ohio. Three years of mostly doing stories about fires, street crimes, and summer harvest festivals pushed him back to New York and the all-local-news cable channel New York 1. He later jumped to CNN to work with Jack Cafferty on several different programs, mostly covering financial news. Professor Novak has long been an advocate for "beat-only" journalism and the elimination of all "general assignment" reporting. He is also a widely-published editorial writer and humorist with weekly columns in Newsday and The Jewish Week. Professor Novak has taught at NYU every semester since the fall of 2001.
