Walking the Walk

It’s true that the crime rate in New York City has reached the lowest level since 1968, but there are still more than 25,000 crimes that are committed annually, enough to provoke caution on anyone’s part. A good way to avoid becoming a victim is to walk with confidence. Slow down and observe your surroundings so that it seems you are familiar with a neighborhood, but never stop to look at a street sign. If you need to know the street that you’re on, read the sign while you’re at a distance so that you don’t have to pause on the corner.
