As a graduate student in journalism at New York University, Alejandra Serret developed an interest in writing profiles, and stories about place. “I love learning about the places people come from, the cultures that shape them, the people that mold them,” she says. Serret grew up in Boxford, a country town north of Boston, and was an undergraduate at the University of San Francisco. In 2004 she traveled around the world with Semester at Sea, an experience she credits for awakening her interest in nonfiction writing.
