STORY: What toll did a decade of covering two bloody wars in Iraq and Afghanistan take on New York Times reporter Dexter Filkins' personal life and emotional health?
This profile is about New York Times foreign correspondent Dexter Filkins. For the last 10 years Filkins has been on the front lines covering the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. How has covering two wars for a decade affected him physically and psychologically? Did it change the man he was? I spent three months conducting interviews in various cities with Dexter, his colleagues, his family and friends to get the answers
I’m Chad Smith, 26, and I just received my master’s in journalism from New York University. Before coming to NYU I worked as a fact-checker for Dow Jones, and I recently completed a six month reporting internship with the New York Daily News.
