Alison Bowen is pursuing an M.A. in journalism and Latin American and Caribbean Studies at New York University. During her studies at Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo., she studied in Costa Rica, which spurred a fascination with Latin American culture and its presence in United States news. After earning a journalism degree from Truman, she moved to New York City and worked as a freelance writer. When she's not brainstorming ingenious story ideas in Brooklyn coffee shops, she's reading the monthly book club book or eavesdropping on Spanish conversations. Her work has appeared in Women's eNews, the Manhattan Times and the New York Daily News.
