Stand on Smoking: I'm on an everlasting quest to make my boyfriend
quit smoking. I am supportive of any legislation promising my
clothes won't smell like smoke after a night out at the bar.

Stand on Smoking: I am trying to quit. I cheated and had one at
the end of the first week. I think the ban is going to cause problems-I
foresee looting of delis and newspaper stands. Not everyone is masochistic
enough in the city to try and quit like me and still go out to bars
and have a drink without a cigarette.

Stand on Smoking: Freshman year I was having a terrible time with
school and I had a lot of stuff going on personally. One particularly
bad day, I skipped all my classes, wrapped myself in my purple
comforter, sat on the balcony and chain-smoked. I don't know why,
and it really didn't do anything for me, but that has been my
only real (and gross) experience with smoking.

Stand on Smoking: New Yorkers should have the right to smoke.
Just round all of the smokers up, and put them in some kind of
huge, unventilated glass dome right off Manhattan Harbor. Leave
the rest of us to enjoy our respective vices in smoke-free peace.

Stand on Smoking: Bloomberg is taking it too far by trying to
ban smoking in all restaurants and bars. It's an issue that should
be decided by the owners of such establishments. I've never been
a smoker. I don't mind smoke as long as it's not being blown in
my face.

Stand on Smoking: I smoke now. Intend to quit real soon, have
quit twice, obviously unsuccessfully. I love smoking, and in college
it's silly not to smoke if you like it. Too tempting. I'm honestly
shocked and disappointed that this ban is even being seriously
considered-on principal, not because I'm a smoker.

Stand on Smoking: The smoking ban just won't work in New York.
Besides any philosophical arguments, a smoking ban would be a
logistical nightmare in Manhattan. People have the right to do
what they please with their bodies. Yes, smoking can kill you,
but so can too many Big Macs.

Stand on Smoking: I'm not a smoker, I never was, and I probably
never will be. I do think Bloomberg's proposal violates our first
amendment rights. If he wants to ban cigarettes in public, why
not alcohol, gambling and pornography?

Stand on Smoking: It ought to be left up to individuals to make
the decision for themselves. It is none of your business what
I do with my body. I have as much right as anyone else to enjoy
myself anywhere I want.

Stand on Smoking: I associate my short time as a smoker with New
York City. I learned how to smoke, what to smoke, and when to
smoke in this concrete jungle. Thank God it never truly become
a habit, only a rebellious stunt.

Stand on Smoking: I have never been intrigued by the idea of smoking
because I am into health and fitness. I don't think it is right
of Mayor Bloomberg to increase the tax on cigarettes because it
is causing a lot of anguish and anger to New York smokers.

Stand on Smoking: My doctor once told me that nine times out of
ten, monkeys choose addictive nicotine over marijuana. He proceeded
to tell me to smoke grass and not to be a monkey. He meant to
convey the dangers of the chemical content in cigarettes
I
think. A tax raise on cigarettes and a non-addictive personality
got me to my current state of very limited smoking. I currently
live in an apartment where I do not want ashtrays laying around
like landmines. If the smoking ban passes, I know that my apartment
will turn into another ashtray. Not because I am smoking, but
because everyone will want an inside environment in which to smoke.
