New to the web is a comedy series on flipping houses called Flipper Nation. If you aren’t familiar with the term “flipping,” it’s when people buy homes purely for the purpose of fixing them up and then selling them at a great profit. With the real estate market booming, many regular people have decided they are able to compete with the professionals. What a lot of regular people don’t realize is that people “in the trade” frequently give each other trade discounts, this is how they make money. Outsiders don’t know this and pay too much when they are renovating their flipper homes.
Flipper Nation was created by Bob Gustafson and Alex McNayr. It was based on their own personal ventures into the real estate market in Los Angeles. Their alter egos are Richie Tatum “housing mogul” and David Kimbal “former accountant.” Episode number one chronicles their first project, which they only saw a profit of $75. The guys do a post-mortem to find out where they went wrong. They blame the contractor, who blames the landscaper. The acting and writing are well done. Very understated.
So far, over 75 blogs have linked to the site which is www.flippernation.com. It is #18 most subscribed to channel in YouTube. It was also named in the top twenty for the Yahoo! Talent show.
The show is getting a great deal of attention and deservedly so. It is funny. If you have ever been involved in real estate, it’s really funny. The creators are hoping to pitch the show to the networks and hopefully it will work out. The comedy is better than many shows currently on TV. But until then, go to the site and give yourself a real estate laugh.
Hi Debra - thanks for the mention! Glad that you liked the show - we're excited about the positive feedback from the flipping community... that sounds bad, "the 'flipping' community." Like we're calling them a bad name. We mean well.
Just wanted to give you a heads-up that it's Alec McNayr and David Kimball -- those are the correct spellings!
Thanks Debra, and keep flipping!
