A strange story out of Kinross, Michigan, reported by sooeveningnews.com, on Tuesday where four inmates’ tunnel was found only six feet away from total completion. A simple escape that would have been reminiscent of such famous Hollywood flicks like “The Shawshank Redemption” or “The Great Escape,” was stopped, by chance, just days before the completion of the inmates plans.
The Michigan Department of Corrections, Russ Marlin, reportedly had “a touch of admiration” for the two convicts for their incredible effort.
It always surprises me when an inmate finds a way to escape prison considering all the walls, and guards that keep a watchful eye. I often feel a sense of admiration as well, although, less so in this case because the men could not quite escape, and two of them were convicted murderers.
Its funny how criminals who escape prison or rob banks receive so much respect. The intelligence and foresight shown in order to pull off such endeavors simply impresses me because these are not criminals who just concede to the most base of feelings by raping or murdering someone. These are criminals who have a deep thought and devise incredible plans to defeat an almost insurmountable obstacle.
These types of criminals treat life like a game, and they are well aware of the consequences of getting caught, but the thrill of possibly outsmarting a multi-million dollar building devised solely to keep a prisoner in, or a similar priced building built to keep everyone out, is worth it to them.
A person has got to respect that, but if they get caught then they must also find themselves back in prison, and start all over. But surely their minds are already thinking of another way to succeed where they failed in the past.
At least I hope so because it is a great story to read.
