A prison in Oxford England no longer has bars and cells for two. It has replaced the dreaded hole, with a mini-bar. The luxury hotel chain, Malmaison, has turned an unused prison into a lodge. The writer who detailed his trip to the Malmaison describes how a double bedroom used to fit 12 prisoners. That might be strange to think about as you watch a plasma television in the same room.
Another example of such prison themed entertainment is the Lockup restaurants located in Japan. You get locked into a cell and prison guards bring the food and drinks. Of course it is one of the most rowdy prisons imaginable.
Even Caesars had a prison themed hotel and casino called Security Maximus on the Las Vegas Strip.
The appeal is fun as people who have never stepped foot in a prison cell, can shortly and mockingly enjoy the prison knowing full well we will receive a pardon at the end of the night. I wish there were more. I do not know of such a themed restaurant in New York, but I want to.
If there was, I would imagine it would have a similar problem to real-life prisons; overcrowding.
