A Movie Site that Goes for Crowdsourcing

Just as Jimmy Wales believes the best search engine should not just rely on computer algorithm but incorporate human intelligence and knowledge, a california-based new movie website (to be launched in July) will combine data crunching with first hand human knowlege--coming from clerks working for the DVD rental stores.

Cinemasaurus is building up a movie database with hundreds of thousands of movies with recommendations and ratings, based on computer data and what the DVD rental stores clerks say what their customers like.

Although I doubt how efficient and accurate of those group interviews/surveys with store clerks can be ( how many clerks they can invite to their office at a time? ), this is an interesting idea for sites that function as "filter" for media products. After all, people need other people's advices, and it is better to know that they are real people who know what they are talking about!
