California Finally Decides the Prison Gameplan; How Disappointing

California finally decided what the state will do about the prison overcrowding. It must have taken deep thinking and long thought to come up with the plan the Governor and legislature helped devise. They concluded that the best possible resolution was to do the same thing the state has done in the past. They have decided to build 53,000 more beds and send 8,000 inmates to a different state. This plan will cost over $8 billion.

Congratulations California. You have not solved a thing. You assured yourselves the same problems in the next few years. You have decided to waste $8 billion. You did not listen to the groups calling for less mandatory sentence laws, more halfway houses and more prevention policies as opposed to punishment policies.

Nothing has changed from the prison boom in the 90’s for California. Most states, while not making changes have at least recognized the futility of more beds more bars and harsher punishment. Not in California. This process has been going on for months now, and all the leaders can come up with is throw more money and continue the policies that failed in the past. Disgraceful.

Governor Schwarzenegger had an opportunity to make change. Really make a difference and become known for more than his idiotic catch phrases. Job poorly done Mr. Governor. You have guaranteed your state more problems in the future, and they will grow exponentially. You think the lack of beds is a problem now? Wait, just wait. The state will see, in a few years they will be worse. A colossal prison system just made a colossal mistake. And just like the prisons they are building, in a few years the problem will be impossible to escape.
