Power Generation – the Villain of the Piece
An article in a recent Economist says that “power generation is the biggest source of carbon-di-oxide in America.” And in this regard, America is the biggest source of carbon-di-oxide in the world.
Bush may be recalcitrant, but the good news is that institutions and organizations are turning toward alternative forms of energy.
As we speak, wind energy is toted to be the least expensive form of energy.
New York University went on record last year as being the largest purchaser of wind energy in the country. A large percentage if the university’s power requirements are met by wind.
There are other educational institutions like the University of Colorado, Denver, that rely on wind energy for their power generation as well.
And then, there are places like Whole Foods in Berkeley, California that rely entirely on solar power for their energy needs and also claim to save on utility bills in the bargain.
(I discussed this in a writing class assignment recently.)
The New York Times reported recently that Frito Lays (Co Pepsi Co) has initiated a greening project.
So far, so good.
Is this a trend that is catching on merely a flash in the pan in response to pressure from environmentalists?
