I try to be a bargain hunter when I shop and I do it for supermarkets to designer stores. I made the error in ordering online from Kenneth Cole one day, about two years back. I ordered a pair of shoes at a discounted price. They were well below $100 and they were Kenneth Cole. I thought I outdid myself. Please.
When the order came via the mail. I inspected it. I take pride with my money and the purchases I get with it. So, what I bought the item on sale? I want it to look brand new and I want a fresh pair out of the box. This store which was based in California, I believe didn't seem to agree with my principles. They sent me a pair of shoes that were already worn. How did I know? Well, friends, I inspected the surfaces of the shoes only to find that they were scuffed beyond belief. I was mortified.
I instantly called and complained and was told to bring the shoes back. I took them to the nearest Kenneth Cole in the local mall, why should I inconvenience myself to go to a particular location, and I demanded a refund. The manager was apologetic and told me that someone must have returned the worn shoes and they accidentaly resold it. Yeah, and someone wasn't doing their job and didn't check to see that someone went out that weekend wore those pumps and scammed you suckers when the deed was done.
After that, I vowed never again. But, a good sale and nice looking merchandise is tempting. I gave in. Only to be taught my lesson twice.
This time I bought a small handbag, online. When it was shipped, I inspected it as I normally do and found that there was no tissue paper that new bags are usually stuffed with and also found an Office Depot pen for my writing pleasure. What the heck? It was my mistake. Once burned...I immediately got on the phone, but also was crafting a nice letter of complaint.
When I told the managers the story they were mortified and said that this wasn't a good reflection of their company. You think not?
I expected that with my note that I could possibly get some sympathy and something nice to sport. I pretty much got a weak apology and that was it.
Now, I pay close attention to the quality of what I purchase, especially if I buy it online, being that I cannot see it before it gets shipped to me. I didn't think that it was fair that even though I was purchasing discounted items that I should get a horrible quality of merchandise and poor customer service on top of that. Who was wrong in this?
Needless to say, that lesson taught me to not buy items from them online for fear that they have a practice of reselling used goods. So now, I fuss over their catalogues instead.
