Great Expectations, more like Shattered Dreams

The dating service Great Expectations has apparently been more of a situation where there were false expectations. According to an article on law.com, a Manhattan Civil Court Judge Diane Lebedeff ruled that two women who signed up for the service should get all money that they paid refunded back to them.

One woman would receive a $1000 back for her six month enrollment with no results and the other woman received $3,790 dollars for signing up for 54 months.

The judge ruled that the dating service violated the Dating Services Law(General Business Obligation Law ยง3941[a]) by overcharging customers, beyond the amount of services provided and the company's broke all its stipulations, but one-the 3 day right to cancel claim. The judge says that under this dating law the maximum that should have been charged to these customers was $25.

The article goes on to state that the owner, attorney Micheal Brandt does not feel that the Dating Services Law is applicable for the services provided.

A blog on Consumer Affairs.com was started by some customers who felt that the service was more of a "do it yourself" approach once the money was taken.

"Debra Roe", one of the winners in the civil suit, stated on Consumer Affairs.com that the organization is "unprofessional" and never returned her calls. She also complained that there never was never any attempts to follow-up. The blog of complaints continues...
