Giving Back is the Gift of Giving

The MTA is in a rather giving mood as its site states that it is offering holiday discounts to its riders.

Some of the features offered are half fare off for Pay-Per-Riders from Thanksgiving to January 1, which includes the 4-day Thanksgiving weekend and every day from December 24-January 1. Bonus days for Unlimited Riders between Thanksgiving and New Year's and a special holiday Unlimited card with up to 40 days of rides for the price of 30.

Commuter rail services are even being featured in these deals. Commuters get a bonus ten-trip or round-trip off-peak commueter railroad tickets with the purchase of a monthly, weekly, or ten-trip ticket during Decmber.

This display of generosity is a result of the reported $928 million surplus. The column by Ray Sanchez on NY Newsday.com website goes into further detail.

Now, I propose that we use some of that money to renovate some of our stations such as the 42nd Street station, Lexington Avenue station and countless others that seem to have been in the works for years.
