Legislative Support for Alternative Energy in Wisconsin

Following the progressive examples recently set by Massachusetts and North Carolina, legislators in Wisconsin have introduced a bill that would require energy policy reform.

Called the Energy Efficiency and Renewables Act, the bill would increase usage of renewable energy sources, increase energy conservation and protect the Public Benefits Fund – which has been stripped of $100 million over the past two biennial budgets. Rep. Phil Montgomery, a Republican author of the legislation said the following:

What we would see is not only cost savings in the generation of energy, but also we would see a lot of investment in the technologies in the state.

It is encouraging to see yet another state focus not only on diversifying toward renewable energy sources but also encouraging domestic alternative energy investment. This bill, which includes “rural energy initiatives” to promote wind turbine and anaerobic digesters (for farm waste), should do a lot for Wisconsin’s clean energy companies if past.
