The Last One…

By Natalie Madrigal

Those were a super quick 10 days, filled with just about every emotion imagineable, but we got it done guys… woooo. So much to miss….. :me and nashia talking in the dorms for hours while katherine was knocked out, caroline sleeptalking ( im a member at ballys guys…lolol), nily’s quirkiness and her ability to make bad dancing look pretty good,  going shopping with mat ( got two nice dresses out of that), the interesting people in the subway (train and restaurant) and the city in general, chinatown, nightcourt, concerts in williamsburg, playing taboo, Janah’s wonderful voice imitations, khalil’s lack of words…yet he’s so funny, and soooo much more.
I’m going to miss you guys so much … these days went by too fast.

BYE-BYE para siempre.. =]]]

A Strong Finish and a New Start

By Matthew Joe

Wow! It’s the last of our intensive 10 day- long program. It has definitely been a fun, productive week and I believe I am an official reporter for the Spectrum. During the beginning, I did not know what to expect…now I can hit the streets of any city. As long as I have this legitimate press pass from the Spectrum, I can whip out my microphone and we’ll have a story. I’ve been living and learning with 14 other teenagers and it’s been a great experience.

As I travel back to Long Island, I look forward to the rest of my summer; however, I will remember this experience at UJW. Good luck to everyone in Urban Journalism and maybe we will meet up at The New York Times or The Wall Street Journal one day.

It All Comes to an End

By Shayra Kamal

I was mistaken yesterday; THIS is my final entry. There will be a graduation ceremony this afternoon(with cupcakes).

I didn’t think I was going to be able to hang out with everyone else in the program, since I’m already out of high school. But I was pleasantly surprised, and I did like talking to all of the people at this program, especially Kaitlyn, Gavin, Christian, Ani, Khalil, and sometimes Matthew. Here is a list of all the participants and one thing I liked about each of them:

Gavin-His one-of-a-kind cynicism.

Kaitlyn-There’s nothing  I DON’T like about this girl. =]

Katherine-How helpful and kind she is.

Ani-How he always makes conversation.

Matthew-The funny things he says sometimes.

Nashia-Her fashion sense and cool attitude.

Ami-Her friendliness and great listening skills, and her cupcake obsession.

Natalie-Her openness and great laugh.

Raina-The passion she has for writing her stories.

Nilufer- The weird, but interesting conversations we’ve had.

Christian- See “Kaitlyn” and add unforgettably amazing awkwardness (We love you, Christian!)

Janah- Her unique background and stories.

Khalil- This guy’s so cool, he doesn’t even have to say a word.

Caroline- Her bubbly personality and friendliness.

And also thanks to the professors, who made publishing the articles and multimedia. And special thanks to Kash the best RA/grad student/person to hang out with us outside of 20 Cooper Square.

I’m going to miss everyone a lot =( I hope we can all keep in touch, through FB,phone, etc. Kaitlyn and Christian, we need to hang out so that I can give you guys your money back.

Thanks everyone for making this program great!

=(

So it’s really sad that it’s almost over. I had so much fun here and im gonna miss my friends (LUNCH LADIES….GUMMY BEAR!). Natalie, i’m going to miss poking you awake in the mornings, and your intense attitude when you think things are brewing (haha). Janah, im going to miss your amazing impressions, and the way you find the most random things funny. Nilufer, im going to miss your quirkiness and friendliness. And Caroline! I’m going to miss your sleep talking and random outbursts. But i’ll definitely see all of you again. We’ve made so many inside jokes this week and cracked up over the SAME jokes over and over and over again it’s ridiculous. And of course, Kash who laughed with us over insane janitors, creepy interview sources, and funny little girls on youtube. You were so awesome and always coming up with fun things to do at night when any other RA might have just dumped us in our dorms. Thanks for that. I’m going to miss the professors as well! They were constantly working to make the spectrum and the program as amazing as possible and it meant a lot when they praised our work. Im even going to miss the dorm rooms. But i have to say, i’m looking forward to lying down on my own bed. Today’s just really chill, everyone’s relaxing and laughing. It’s funny because a week ago we were all quiet and awkward but it’s totally different now. Anyway, all of our stories are up and were completely finished. It was a crazy week but it was amazing anyway.

I’m going to enjoy sleeping in a real bed

We left the Chinese takeout in the room if you wanted to know. Left them lined up on the shelves, labeled too. Thought it would make a nice gift for management. Lunch in the East Village is godawfully expensive these days.

Today’s the last day. Well, that was fun. My dog had fun too.

I’m wearing the same shirt and pants I did on the first day (kind of gross). The luggage is also in the same spot as it was on the first day (except there’s one more bag full of David Sedaris books). And there’s a guy who went through ten days in a journalism workshop carrying that luggage back home.

Here’s some lame graduation music to set the mood. I forgot the name of the artist.
