Before Joseph Israel Laban decided to pursue a Master’s degree in Journalism at New York University on a Fulbright Scholarship, he worked as a senior producer for the Philippine investigative television program Reporter’s Notebook. He produced documentaries and wrote articles on human trafficking in Kish, Iran and Dubai United Arab Emirates; migrant’s issues in East Timor; and regional security concerns in Indonesia and Mindanao among others. He has also contributed articles to the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) and he was a Fellow of the Bangkok-based Southeast Asian Press Alliance (SEAPA) Journalism Fellowship in 2007. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing from the University of the Philippines at Diliman.
