"Absurdly Normal"!

I’m not sure the last time a middle-aged man with fuchsia pink hair, an inane sense of fashion, an alter-ego, and a blog following in the millions was a remote definition of "normal," average or routine – but hey – this is America.

Apparently Perez Hilton (or, as his mother named him, Mario Lavandeira) thinks he’s "absurdly normal." The celebrity blogger spoke to BBC about his site as a threat to journalism institutions and celebrity publicists. Why is he such a threat? Apparently because he’s been both – a journalist and a publicist, and has seen the ugliness of both sides. So the rebel writer makes fun of the bizarrely un-normal celebrities who think they’re just like anybody else.

I don’t think Perez Hilton gets it. If he thinks he’s normal, it’s because he’s already too far sucked in with the celebrity crowd to distinguish the difference anymore. The BBC article says that Hilton is now close (perhaps the next gal pal) to Paris Hilton and was “unusually quiet” about Paris Hilton’s racial and homophobic comments. Yet, the only thing he concedes is that his friendship with celebrities “can make it difficult.” Perez needs to take a step back or join the zoo so that other bloggers can write about him.
