BBC Calls Perez Subjective, Catty, Childish

The BBC News’ profile of Perez Hilton offered some rather scathing commentary on his blog. While the piece mostly functioned as a basic profile of Perez, I couldn’t help but notice Briggs’ description of his commentary. “Most of it is catty, some downright cruel - arguably all childish.”

She goes on to say, “While Perez is quick to deny a desire to be famous, his showbiz blog suggests a shameless desire to be seen with the stars on the celebrity circuit.” Oh, snap. Briggs also goes on to doubt his objectivity, suggesting his friendship with Paris Hilton affects his coverage of her antics.

She concludes the story by hinting at what Mario Lavandeira’s personality is really like. “While he insists his larger-than-life Perez persona is ‘strategic,’ it also masks a disarming hint of vulnerability.”

It sounds to me like Briggs is calling Mr. Lavandeira a scared little boy whose cheap, catty commentary is a sad attempt to be amongst the beautiful and thin.

Well, duh. It’s not hard to tell Lavandeira’s joy that Tara Reid threatened to throw him in a pool at a party. In fact, it’s not hard to tell Lavandeira’s joy just to be at a party with Tara Reid. I also like he calls himself “absurdly normal” while altering his appearance and persona to appear anything but. Face it, someone with pink hair is begging to be looked at.
