Pol Blog Dawns on NY Sun

The New York Sun wants to shine all by itself. The broadsheet hopes to launch a national political blog with a hometown spin.

It’s no Daily Politics or Empire Zone , and it ain’t trying to be. According to NYO, the New York Sun’s new online editor hopes to start NYSunPolitics.com, the Sun’s political blog with national appeal. The 27-year-old Ryan Sager tells the Observer he plans to start the site next month.

And who can blame the Sun? Hey, if you haven’t already, there’s no better time to start a political blog in New York. With a potential political subway series and—at the very least—several big-name contenders from New York on the national stage, a little NY perspective could draw a lot of eyes.

“We certainly come at things without the immense backing that Politico has,” Sager tells the Observer . “It’s a more specialized site, trying to take advantage of our connections in New York.”

Kudos, Sun. Oh, yeah, and it’s about time.
