The Midwest Is Hip, Too

Being Midwestern and an adult doesn't necessarily conjure up a savvy blogger image. Luckily, Detroit Free Press "life" blogger Susan Ager proves the blogosphere stereotypes of carelessness wrong.

She is a proud grandmother, a born and bred Michigander, and very open minded, saying her gay friends helped her "think about people as more than what they do."

Her perspective is unique as well.

Although blogs have been propelled to fame by "snarky"(a.k.a. entertainingly mean) comments, Ager finds this disgusting.

"The most surprising thing I've learned from blogging is how downright mean and nasty some people can be when cloaked in the anonymity of the Internet," Ager says.

"There are days when I want to never blog again, because the posts that readers make are so ugly and obnoxious, especially toward each other."

Ager thinks about the interests and concerns of her newspaper readers in her posts and consequently has one of the most well-trafficked blogs at Freep.com.

Whether her hard work has benefitted the internet outlet is still unknown, although I'm sure she has many readers who benefit from her well-written posts.
