A Slice of 1984 in '08

The anonymous creator of the infamous YouTube ad that likened Hillary Clinton to Big Brother and directed viewers to Sen. Barack Obama’s website has unveiled his identity. Obama may want to sit this one out.

When Philip de Vellis heard he was going to be outed by The Huffington Post, as the creator of the video, he resigned from his firm yesterday and came forward himself.

“It's true . . . yeah, it's me,” he told the AP late last night.

De Vellis worked for Blue State Digital, a company that designed Obama’s website. He claims that the Clinton video was created on his own time and had nothing to do with the company’s political allegiance.

My guess is that these types of political videos are going to be popping up on YouTube with increasing frequency—especially as the election nears. The Orwellian ad would never be able to run on TV—and its creator would have had to attach his name to the product even if it were allowed to run. Ah, the wonders of technology.
