'Vote For The Worst' on American Idol

"American Idol" is finally worth watching this season, thanks to the drama created by Howard Stern and Vote For The Worst. Both are backing 17-year-old Sanjaya Malakar, a mediocre singer at best. The show is down to the Top 9 now and Sanjaya is still around, shocking the audiences each week with his crazy performances and even crazier hairstyles -- and even bringing one girl to tears.

My mom finally sucked me in to "American Idol" this season and I have to admit, Sanjaya totally makes the show worth watching. He's not a good singer by any means, but he's entertaining and unpredictable. If he got voted off, the show would be really boring. Who wants to watch a bunch of good singers? OK, so it's totally unfair to the people who are voted off each week while Sanjaya slides through, but it's not like all of these people aren't going to get recording contracts anyway.

There's a relatively easy solution -- Fox should only allow people to vote a certain number of times. The way it is now, the lines are open for two hours after the show and you can call and vote as many times as you want, inspiring programs like DialIdol. "American Idol" just loves boasting that they have over 30 million votes on each show. Cutting that down would be less impressive but would make the show a little more credible.

Vote for the Worst! Woo-Hoo! I think the reason why the whole VFTW movement started was because people realized that horrible singers were getting through round after round so they can be seen in front of the judges just to be made fun of on national television.

I kind of feel bad for Sanjaya, but at the same time I think he understands why he is still there and is just taking it for all its worth. Hey, it worked for William Hung.
