NEW YORK first city to OUTLAW TRANSFAT

Out with the fat, screams the city of New York. 'Trans fat gets fried,' as stated in the headline in today's "Daily News." According to the article, New York City will be banning the usage of trans fat in all restaurants by July '07. Starting this trend off right, New York will be the first city in the U.S. to completely ban the 'artery-clogging' fat. What was also interesting about this article was that Krispy Kreme, Dunkin' Donuts, and other restaurants that use deep-fried dough or cakes have to July of '08 to can it. I think this is something positive that U.S. is doing. In fact, we're actually late to jump-off the trans-fat band wagon, Europe has long gotten rid of it with the substitution of lard.

According to Mayor Bloomberg, "If we can do it without trans fats, you'll save, estimates of the public health officials, a couple of hundred lives a year in New York City."

I completely agree with this limiting of unhealthy ingredients in the "fast-food" diet and believe that it will, in fact, save lives. Countless American youth across the nation, myself included, frequent fast foods restaurants at least once a week. If you're going to indulge in this quilty pleasure it might as well be as healthy as possible.
