Some Daily Candy for Rachel Sklar of Eat the Press

Rachel Sklar and her gang at The Huffington Post’s Eat the Press plan to break from the daily media news cycle to tell you what they think is “cool” by launching their own Daily Candy-like feature. And trust me, if Rachel thinks it’s cool then it probably is (considering she’s an ex-lawyer turned blogger who says “aboot” like the good Canadian she is).

Rachel told us about the new “Our Rarefied Opinion” feature on Eat the Press during a visit to our class this week. To help get it up and running, I figured I would create a prototype for what we think Rachel—a self-described “goofy writer”—would enjoy:

READ “Conquering Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: And Other Repetitive Strain Injuries,” by Sharon J. Butler

Why: Because Rachel says blogging can be an unhealthy lifestyle and recommends young bloggers take care of their wrists. (She can demonstrate a fantastic wiggle/circular motion to describe her plight.)

When: Since Rachel sometimes sleeps with her computer, to keep up with the daily news cycle, perhaps in the bathroom where the computer cord can’t reach.

WATCH NBC’s “Grease You’re the One That I Want”

When: Well, the season is over, but I’m sure you can buy episodes on iTunes.

Why: Rachel was apparently a big dork at age 11. She says “Grease 2” was (and still remains) one of her favorite flicks nearly 23 years later. (The age may come as a shocking statistic, but fear not—she is still younger than the combined age of Mary-Kate plus Ashley.)

DRINK The Canadian Killer Kool-Aid

How: Vodka, amaretto, melon liqueur and cranberry juice.

Why: The HuffPo staff does not “drink the Kool-Aid,” according to Rachel. Well, that’s a good thing for political reporting but unfortunate for their taste buds—Who can deny the delectable taste of flavored sugar water?

The real reason why: Because everyone knows that Canada is just cooler.

Don't forget reading up in "A Beginner's Guide to Using Explicit Greek Phrases." I would bet that moving forward from her knowedge of the word "malaka" is in Sklar's current plans, and I can only suppose the delight of Arianna Huffington at such an endeavor...
