Shahan Mufti is an associate professor in the Department of Journalism at the University of Richmond in Virginia. His work has appeared in the pages of Harper’s, Wired, The New York Times Magazine, The Nation, Bloomberg Businessweek, Columbia Journalism Review, The Atlantic, and many others. His first book, The Faithful Scribe: A Story of Islam, Pakistan, Family and War was published by Other Press in 2013. He is currently writing his second book, about the 1977 Hanafi Siege of Washington, which will be published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. His visiting scholar appointment is sponsored by the Literary Reportage graduate program.
