Prof. Mohamad Bazzi wins award from New York Deadline Club

Mohamad Bazzi, an Associate Professor of Journalism and Director of NYU’s Hagop Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies, recently won the New York Deadline Club’s 2026 award for opinion writing — for a series of columns in the Guardian US last year on Donald Trump’s corruption of the presidency.

The award judges wrote in their citation: “Bazzi succinctly documents how in the Trump era, the art of statecraft has blurred with the art of the deal. Fusing sharp opinion with rigorous reporting, he links global and domestic affairs, politics and business, law and ethics — helping readers see the big picture and letting the facts speak for themselves.”

In April, Professor Bazzi also won third place in the 2026 National Headliner Awards, in the “special or feature column” category, for the same Guardian series. Professor Bazzi is a columnist for the Guardian US, writing on American foreign policy and corruption under the Trump Administration.
