Global Beat is NYU Journalism’s international field reporting class. In 2021, due to the global pandemic, we will take a different approach and cover the world remotely. While we will not have the chance to take the traditional class trip, we will still immerse ourselves in reporting on topics of international crisis and conflict, development, public health, human rights, environment, global politics, migration and other global issues. The course will focus on story identification, development, pitching and then the logistics required for long form and immersive foreign reporting. Students will build story dossiers based on regions and present topics frequently for feedback from our group. The class is an ideal way to prepare for overseas thesis work or gain skills for future international assignments.
Please note: Equipment Insurance is required if you need to borrow equipment. Purchase equipment insurance for a full year through College Student Insurance (CSI) https://collegestudentinsurance.com/. CSI covers the gear checked out from the Journalism Equipment Room plus personal items such as laptops and cell phones. Our suggested CSI plan costs $155 with a $500 deductible.
