Finding Your Voice: Audio and Video Journalism (2 credit) (Session 2)

In today’s media world, voice is everything: identity, credibility and creative signature. Explore how storytellers across platforms — from narrative podcasts to YouTube explainers to confessional TikToks — use voice to inform, persuade and connect. Students will experiment with writing, performance and editing techniques to develop their own distinct and authentic media voice. By the end of the course, students will produce short audio and video pieces, building a creative portfolio and gaining practical skills for communicating ideas. This course offers an ideal foundation for aspiring journalists, creators and media innovators.
Instructor bio:
Kristin Schwab is a correspondent at the business news program Marketplace, where she reports on the consumer economy. She’s based in Queens, New York. Before Marketplace, Kristin produced narrative and news podcasts for The New York Times, New York Magazine and The Wall Street Journal. Kristin also has a BFA in dance from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. After performing with ballet and modern companies, she got her start in journalism as an editor at Dance Magazine.
