Masterclass with Nancy Buirski
In October, Nancy Buirski stopped by NYU to talk about her work as a documentary filmmaker and her use of archival footage. Prior to making documentary films, Buirski worked as a documentary photographer and the foreign picture editor at the New York Times. She also founded the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival before starting work on her first documentary, “The Loving Story.” The archival documentary depicts the story Richard and Mildred Loving, the couple to bring the fight against bans on interracial marriage to the Supreme Court. Her most recent film, “The Rape of Recy Taylor” has won awards at Chicago International Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival among others.
Her talk was sponsored by Visual Arts Initiative Award, NYU Journalism, Center for Media Culture and History and TSOA Undergraduate Film and TV.
