Aneela Mirchandani is an investigative journalist whose work centers on digital research, public records, and court proceedings. She has taken on politically contentious topics with nuance and precision.
Aneela started her career as a programmer. During this time she wrote for her own websites on social media, free speech, and disinformation.
NYU’s American Journalism Online program helped turn her vocation into a profession. This is where she learned how to structure a story, how to maintain sources, and how to think about the ethics of reporting.
Aneela lives in San Francisco and reports on local news for AsAmNews. Her story on a caste discrimination lawsuit won the first runner-up award in the Politics Category for the 2025 American Community Media Awards. She has written for Salon and Mother Jones, and was recently awarded a California Local News Fellowship.
