Axel Turcios is an Emmy-Award winning journalist with over a decade of relentless work on television, radio, digital media and the written press. Axel joined the New York University Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute in 2024 as an adjunct professor for the journalism graduate program teaching advanced multimedia reporting.

Most recently, Axel worked as a National Correspondent for Scripps News based out of New York City. During his time at Scripps News, Axel produced, wrote, and reported several special stories including the network’s first ever special report celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, “La Nueva América.” Axel also covered several national stories including the 2022 Uvalde school mass shooting and its aftermath, the 2023 Lewiston, Maine mass shooting, the 2023 Michigan State University mass shooting, the 2022 Colorado Springs nightclub mass shooting, the migrant crisis in New York City, the E. Jean Carroll v. Donald J. Trump trial, the Ghislaine Maxwell Trial, the Honduran former president drug trial, and the crisis of asylum-seekers in Canada.

Previously, he worked as a reporter for Univision 23 in Miami, FL where he produced, reported, and wrote his Emmy-Award winning special series “A bordo del pánico,” a state- of-the-art production exploring the fear of flying. In addition, Axel frequently collaborated as a correspondent on the national programs Primer Impacto, Noticiero Nacional Univision, Despierta América, and in English for Fusion’s UNews. On the radio, he participated as host and correspondent on Univision stations.

Before joining Univision, Axel worked for two years as a reporter/multimedia journalist for Telemundo in Las Vegas. In Nevada, Axel reported on major national stories including the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting, the 2016 last presidential debate and 2016 presidential elections. During his time in Las Vegas, Axel collaborated with the national shows Noticias Telemundo and Un Nuevo Día.

Previously, in Miami, he was an Associate Producer and writer at Telemundo 51. He also worked as a reporter and producer for América TeVe, Channel 41.

Axel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Miami with a focus on political science, a specialty he completed at the University of Westminster in London, United Kingdom.

In his free time, Axel is dedicated to community work and the organization of charitable projects to help low-income families and children in his country of origin, Honduras. He created the #ToyConHonduras movement through which more than a thousand toys were collected and delivered personally by Axel in his hometown of La Ceiba. Additionally, in November of 2020 Axel collaborated with his non-profit organization Axel Turcios Foundation and Honduran influencer Lipstickfables (Ana Alvarado) to gather humanitarian aid for communities affected in Honduras by Hurricane ETA. Through the initiative, four cargo containers were filled with humanitarian aid and sent out to be distributed among the people in the most affected areas in Honduras.
