Hyemi Ji-eun Lee, a Korean news anchor and reporter, is currently the co-anchor of Newsroom on the JTBC network, a CNN affiliate. She was deeply involved in JTBC’s in-depth exclusive reports on corruption of the former Korean president, which ultimately lead to impeachment of the president in 2016. Lee started her career in 2007 as a television producer and was an award-winning documentary maker, switching later to journalism. As an international reporter based in Seoul, she mainly covers East Asian diplomatic issues. She was born and raised in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, and also spent some of her childhood in Princeton, New Jersey. Mainly educated in Korea, she majored in journalism at Ewha Womans University in Seoul, minoring in political science and diplomacy. While at the Carter Institute, she will focus her research on diplomatic changes especially in East Asia, facing a new period toward North Korea’s denuclearization.
