João Noé is a Ph.D. candidate in Communication Sciences at the University of Coimbra in Portugal. Funded by the Portuguese scientific foundation (FCT), he researches the use of ethnography by journalists. With more than 15 years of experience in newsrooms, João has already worked for some of the most prominent Brazilian media companies. His works have appeared in vehicles such as Globo TV and Piauí magazine. He also worked as a voluntary teacher for low-income young inhabitants of favelas in Rio de Janeiro, where he was born. Currently a visiting scholar at NYU, João also holds a MA in Political Communications from Goldsmiths, University of London.
