Jon Baskin is a founding editor of The Point and the coordinator of the Program for Public Thinking, an educational initiative dedicated to the philosophy and practice of public discourse. His writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Review of Books, The New York Times, The Nation, Liberties, and The Chronicle Review, among other places. Previously, he was the deputy editor at Harper’s and the Associate Director of the Creative Publishing and Critical Journalism program at the New School for Social Research. His book, Ordinary Unhappiness: The Therapeutic Fiction of David Foster Wallace, was published by Stanford University Press in 2019. He earned a PhD from the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago in 2016.
