Joel Marino

Joel Marino has been a journalist since age 12, when he wrote articles for a Spanish-language community paper run by his father in South Florida. He has since been a crime writer, food columnist, foreign correspondent, copy chief, and senior editor, bouncing between print and digital publications in English and Spanish.

Marino is currently the first director of editorial training at Business Insider. He leads workshops, assembles trainings, brings in guest speakers, writes policies and guidelines — anything the growing digital-media company needs to give its staff the tools to develop as professionals and storytellers.

He was a finalist for the William Randolph Hearst Award, and a winner of the Florida Press Club Best in State Award, both for breaking news (his adrenaline rush of choice). Marino is also an alumnus of the Chips Quinn fellowship for minority journalists.
