Johnny Dwyer is a reporter and author of “American Warlord” (Knopf) and the forthcoming Southern/Eastern. Previously, he was a staff writer at LIFE Magazine where he reported domestic and international stories including the war in Iraq and Hurricane Katrina. He has also reported for The Village Voice, LA Weekly, Esquire, Rolling Stone, TIME, and The New York Times covering criminal justice, human rights, and immigration. His first book “American Warlord” investigates the origins and collapse of Charles Taylor’s regime in Liberia through the story of his American son, Chucky Taylor, the target of the United States’ first extraterritorial torture prosecution. Dwyer is currently working on his second book about criminal justice in New York City.
