American Journalism Online 2022
Before AJO, I was a full-time small business owner in the weddings and event space. Journalism was something I loved growing up but I got sidetracked when it came to pursuing it during my undergrad. Inspired by the storytelling that came out of the pandemic and the 2020 election aftermath, I applied to AJO in 2021. While still a student, I was able to use the packages I created in my broadcast reporting course to create a reel that landed me a job as an anchor and reporter at an ABC affiliate in West Texas.
I now work on Capitol Hill as a Press Secretary for a U.S. Congressman. While I’m no longer a reporter myself, I use the writing and digital creative skills I gained in AJO to craft communications for our office, and I use my experience as a journalist to work with reporters and producers to get coverage of my Member and the issues he’s passionate about in the press on a district and national level.
