Matt Shaer
Matthew Shaer is a writer-at-large for the New York Times Magazine, an Emerson Fellow at New America, and a co-founder of the podcast studio Campside Media. He wrote and hosted season 1 of Suspect, which won a Signal Award for Best Writing, an NYU AJO Journalism Award for Best News-Based Podcast, and an Ambie Award for Best True Crime Podcast. The New Yorker, in naming Suspect one of the best podcasts of 2021, called the show a “master class in tone”; New York Magazine labeled it “a meditation on the consequences of systematically shoddy policing.” Shaer, who lives in Atlanta with his family, is currently at work on a new season of Suspect, about the attorney Lara Bazelon’s efforts to overturn a wrongful murder conviction from 1998.
