Cultural Reporting & Criticism 2021
I graduated in December 2021, and I’ve worked at This American Life, and Serial Productions with the New York Times. I’m currently a producer at CityCast Chicago. NYU was the space where I had the freedom to experiment with the ideas that I have, figure out what my voice is, and what are the things I’m interested in. And learning from professors, editors, and peers about what makes a good story was really helpful.
I gained confidence in my skill set, getting to know the software, getting to know what makes a good pitch, and getting to know what makes a good story. It just made me feel more confident in myself, and it made me feel more willing to apply to things. And I think that’s really what a lot of people have to do: just trust your gut, trust your ideas.
If you want space to experiment, explore, and get constructive criticism that will make you a stronger and better editor, writer, or producer, you can find it here at the Journalism School for sure.
