The Heart Is a Shifting Sea: Love and Marriage in Mumbai

An intimate, deeply reported and revelatory examination of love, marriage, and the state of modern India—as witnessed through the lives of three very different couples in today’s Mumbai.

The Art of Vanishing: A Memoir of Wanderlust

by Laura Smith

A riveting mystery and a piercing exploration of marriage and convention that asks deep and uncomfortable questions. In December 1939, Barbara Newhall Follett—who published her first novel at 11, and was one of the first women to hike the Appalachian Trail—vanished without a trace. Obsessed by her story, Laura set off to find out what happened.

Refreshments will be served and books will be available for purchase.

Hosted by NYU Journalism’s Cultural Reporting and Criticism and Literary Reportage programs.
